At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, commercial waste is a problem. In fact, quite a sizeable problem.<\/p>\n

The latest available government statistics*, updated in June 2023, reveal that businesses in England produced a massive\u00a033.9 million tonnes<\/strong>\u00a0of what is referred to as commercial and industrial waste (C&I) in 2021.<\/p>\n\n

Difficulties with Debris<\/h2>\n

Whilst household waste still accounts for most of what ends up in landfill, rubbish from shops, businesses, building sites and factories is still a significant concern.<\/p>\n

As a responsible commercial landlord, property developer, or local authority officer, you are undoubtedly aware of the need to dispose of your business’s waste lawfully, and with great care. Business waste disposal legislation is exacting and delivers stringent and stiff penalties if you don\u2019t know the rules or bypass them.<\/p>\n

Equally, you may have been plagued by fly-tipping.<\/p>\n

Not only does it look ugly, but this type of waste attracts rats and mice and poses a risk to health, Not least, as with neglected commercial waste, it\u2019s all a combustible fire hazard. Equally, it impacts the environment with potentially harmful greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n

Plus, if not cleared promptly, it multiplies as if by magic. For example, fly-tippers can almost sense bulk-tipped rubbish at 1000 paces \u2013 word goes around fast, it seems \u2013 with more illegal tipping piled on top of the original waste.<\/p>\n

What is Commercial Waste?<\/h2>\n

A simple definition.<\/p>\n

Commercial waste covers anything that\u2019s generated by businesses \u2013 from fairly mundane office waste to that which is caused by all sizes and types of organisations.<\/p>\n

The key difference between domestic and commercial waste is that, unlike your homely wheelie bin, there are strict guidelines and laws governing the garbage a business generates.<\/p>\n
