They are a cost-effective method of creating a versatile and robust secure perimeter for vacant properties or to protect vacant construction sites, car parks, outdoor events and other large open areas that may be targeted by illegal occupation. Pre-cast concrete blocks are offered in varied sizes from 1.5 to 3 metres.

Concrete barriers are available on long-term or short-term contract hire across Scotland. Under normal circumstances, and depending on the volume required, we typically deliver within one working day.

Concrete Barrier Uses

Concrete barriers used on your site or property is an effective and efficient solution that is implemented quickly:

Concrete barriers protect workers

Concrete barriers can be used to protect workers from passing traffic. When carrying out roadside maintenance, workers are often at risk from road users. Concrete barriers provide a versatile means of maintaining safety if used as traffic separators during road construction projects.

To prevent unlawful or unwanted access

Concrete barriers are ideal for construction sites or large vacant spaces for preventing unauthorised or unwanted traffic entering unsafe areas. Concrete barriers also protect vacant areas from unwanted visitors from using the land and illegal fly-tippers.

Guiding of traffic or demarcation

If demarcation is needed to know which areas vehicles can be driven in, concrete blocks make a great temporary solution which can be installed and removed quickly after use. Having control over the traffic flow is helpful to protect pedestrians from traffic. Each concrete block is extremely heavy, so there is no chance that they will be moved either through high winds or drivers actions.

What Can Concrete Barriers Be Used For?

To fence off areas during public events

Concrete barriers can be used at public events to block off areas which aren’t accessible to the public and creating walkways. They also provide great solid base support for fencing and can be used to stand up to bigger crowds which are better than normal fences.

Flood defences

Concrete blocks can be first-line protection if a flood occurs, against water that is rising by reducing the water flow. Concrete barriers can also stop traffic from going into waterlogged areas.

Terrorist activities or threats

Concrete blocks can be used as a method of defending areas that might be at risk of terrorist attacks or to create secure boundaries after a terrorist-related incident.

Preventing ram raiders

When a business is threatened by burglaries such as ram raiders, placing concrete barriers acts as a useful prevention.

Our Concrete Block Solutions:

Temporary Vertical Concrete Block – TVCB Hire

TVCB Temporary Vertical Concrete Barrier

Temporary Vertical Concrete Blocks are used as a physical barrier for prevention against potential unauthorised entries. Our TVCBs are the perfect solution for securing entrances to car parks of land, protecting workers from vehicles and unwanted visitors. They offer all-around versatility because they can function as Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) as well as Vehicle Security Barriers (VSBs).

Our concrete blocks are made from concrete which is high-quality and crash tested with the high impact of a vehicle to ensure they are robust and perfect for protecting pedestrians and construction workers.

TVCBs are perfect traffic protection for safer working environments such as construction sites and busy roads where workers are at risk by being close to traffic.

Concrete Jersey Barriers

Concrete Jersey Barrier

These barriers are ideal for the management of traffic, for protection against higher impact, separating traffic or protection for pedestrians or construction workers in the occurrence of vehicle collisions. Jersey barriers can be interlocked to create a barrier of any length.

If Jersey barriers are used as edge protection as a perimeter, they offer great protection against potential vehicle intrusions. They also provide a safer environment for pedestrians and workers during traffic rerouting that may be required during construction work.

Our Jersey barriers are made from high-grade concrete that interlock. They can be placed in the desired area with either a forklift or a lifting arm mounted on a lorry, which as easy and quick to install on any site.

Interlocking Concrete Blocks

LG8 Interlocking Concrete Lego Blocks

Concrete blocks that interlock can be stacked both horizontally and vertically.

Even though the blocks are heavy, they are easy and quick for us to assemble and install.

Having interlocking blocks is a great solution for managing pedestrian and vehicle access, protecting vacant properties or building custom partition walls and storage bays. They are also water and fire-resistant.

These blocks are also known as retaining block walls as they can be stacked in different directions securely to provide highly-effective, solid wall barriers or structures which can be used in a range of different projects.

They are available in different variations of weights and sizes and can have nodes of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10. This means they can have unlimited choices of shape, length and height combinations for situations such as retaining walls, temporary structures, flood defence or storage systems.

Concrete Barrier Hire Case Study

In the north of Birmingham, Clearway was called to a vacant site located on the A5 that needed securing. The site was an Indian restaurant that was soon to be a petrol station. The site was vacant for a short time until trespassers inhabited the land by breaking down the fence.

A long eviction process took place, and the unauthorised trespassers were removed. The Heras fencing that was currently there was not suitable for deterring attempts in the future.

Over four days, we placed 22 temporary vertical blocks to create a 77-ton perimeter so that no vehicles looking to enter illegally would be able to enter.

Frequently asked questions

Both options are available. As well as our mounted hydraulic crane on a lorry, we can use a Moffett M8 30.3 forklift which is trailer mounted. The Moffett M8 allows access areas that are harder to reach, so it is possible to provide blocks to most areas of your property or site if there are suitable conditions. The forklift can reach harder places that the crane lorry would not be able to.

We can send either 10 blocks or 6 blocks per delivery (each weighing 2.5 tonnes). If you need additional blocks for a larger order, we can use multiple vehicles. Fitted with an integral Moffett M8 30.3 as a forklift truck (trailer unloading) as well as a hydraulic crane (crane unloading), we’re able to position and deliver concrete blocks anywhere.

We provide a large range of concrete blocks for many different situations. A site-survey or an initial conversation will take place to establish the needs of your site and discuss a solution. Our barriers include Jersey, temporary, interlocking blocks, concrete blocks with Heras fencing and pre-cast concrete. Our surveyor will examine any potential risks on the site and find the best appropriate solution.

Concrete blocks can be delivered on weekdays, deliveries usually take place later or earlier in the day to avoid busy traffic and hold-ups. Our office is always available during usual office hours (weekdays), but if an emergency occurs, you can contact us out-of-hours.

Concrete blocks can be bolted together end-to-end to provide a stable and strong barrier. However, if the ground isn’t flat or stable enough, this would not be possible. In most cases, we use M24 steel bolts which are heavy-duty and fitted on the inside of the blocks.

Usually, our clients opt for 2.5 tonne blocks as they’re suitable for most projects. We can however provide blocks ranging from one tonne through to a five-tonne block if needed. Please bear in mind that the higher the weight of the combined blocks (when bolted together), the more difficult/laborious they are to move.

Yes. Our office is based in East Kilbride, in Scotland. We provide installation and delivery across Scotland. We work with partners who are trusted by us and comply with our code of practice and standards.

We audit all of our subcontractors and make sure that every installation is made to a higher standard. Due to our quality control process, every installation and removal is photographed and make sure that we deliver as part of the agreement and specification.

We can provide concrete blocks which contain plants for more of an aesthetic look. The functionality stays the same, but the barrier’s appearance will look more aesthetically  pleasing yet a discreet security measure.

Depending on the ground conditions, the blocks can be placed on most surfaces. We will consider the height limits and always secure every site individually. We evaluate the possible access points, which might not be obvious. Vulnerable points of access might be achieved through grass verges, through breaking through fence lines or other vulnerable areas. This might increase the rental cost of the job, but the price of the removal of fly-tipping or fixing any damage could be a much larger cost; therefore, the extra cost is worthwhile.

In most cases, we will offer site surveys before the installation, which can be executed by looking on Google Earth or clients can send us photos to refine any requirements or situations. A lot of detail is needed before an installation as final positioning and locations are crucial, including to know if pedestrian or vehicle access is needed. Clearway will notify you of any subjects of weakness for you and assess security hazards you might not have realised or considered.

It is possible to supplement concrete barriers with gates. Customers usually require physical security for entrance/exit or full perimeter but with the capability to have controlled access for pedestrians or vehicles. We install and supply our own gates, in different lengths from 3 to 4.5 metres, which are designed specially to connect to our concrete blocks. The blocks and gates can be installed on the same day that they are installed.
